Learn to dive or improve your skill level

As a Five-Star, PADI-Certified Resort, we offer a full variety of instruction levels based on your needs. We can accommodate everything from new divers to those who want to improve their abilities and even become a certified divemaster. Our full list of courses is listed here, but as always if you have other needs, please let us know, and we’ll do our best to accommodate!

Scuba Diver Refresher Course

If it’s been a while since you’ve been diving, you should consider taking a refresher course. The class takes about three hours and it will really make you feel more confident once you get out on the boat. Included in the refresher course is about an hour of reviewing the theory, but the rest of the time is spent in the water practicing skills, looking at fish and having lots of fun.

Discover Scuba Course

Our DISCOVER SCUBA DIVING class is a great introduction to the world of diving! This is not a dive-certification course, however, we teach you the basic skills needed to make a safe, supervised dive with an instructor. If you like the experience, perhaps you will go on to get your full certification, then you can dive anywhere in the world.

Open Water Certification (Referral)

For your referral, you will need to bring the referral letter from your instructor. That letter is good for one year from the date that it’s issued. Upon arrival here, you will need to complete four Open Water dives, which will be conducted over two days. The first day, we make two dives from the beach. That will take about 3.5 – 4.5 hours in total, depending on how fast you breathe your air.

Open Water Certification (Entire Course)

We are a PADI RESORT destination – #16544 and offer the PADI Open Water Scuba Diving Course, which we usually conduct over a period of 4 days. That is a nice amount of time to take during your vacation without having to dedicate a crazy amount of hours. There is the possibility that the course can be done in 3 days, if you have some experience with diving or are really, really comfortable in the water. But that decision is made between the student and the instructor once here. You have three options to complete this course:

Nitrox Course

The Nitrox course is a favorite to teach at Scuba Shack. The theory part is quite long, but the diving is really easy. The class itself lasts for about four-five hours. We learn how to calculate everything about Nitrox and the diving. Then you will have to make two dives. Usually, we do the class work one day in the afternoon or evening, and then the next morning we make the dives. The price for the course is $250 USD and that includes the book, Nitrox tables, boat dives and the Nitrox tanks. You will need to bring your regular dive tables with you.

Advanced Scuba Course

The ADVANCED COURSE is a great course to take. The idea behind the course is to give the diver options to learn about different types of diving, conditions, experiences, etc. There are five dives that are required for the course, and only three of them are core dives: navigation, deep and night diving. The other two dives then are your choice. The night dive is a prerequisite for additional certifications, such as Divemaster, Instructor, etc. You get to choose the other two dives.

Rescue Diver Course

The Rescue course is conducted completely from the beach, and we usually do it over three days. In the course, there is a lot of theory about medicines, how to handle people, how to prevent equipment problems, etc. In addition to the theory, there are going to be beach scenarios were you are going to practice and perfect the practical skills needed to help yourself and others while in and/or underwater. The last two scenarios is putting all of the previous ones together to complete full blown rescues.

PADI Divemaster Course

To start your divemaster certification, you are required to have a PADI Rescue Diver certification or equivalent from another diving organization. You also must have an up-to-date CPR/First Aid certification. You are required to have at least 20 dives to begin the course and 60 in order to get certified.
